SENIZOLE-FORTE (Secnidazole)1gm Tablets

DRUG CATEGORY: antiprotozoal / Amoebicidal

MECHANISM OF ACTION: Secnidazole is active against E. histolytica, G. lamblia, T. vaginalis, Clostridium spp., B. fragilis, Gardnerella spp. The drug enters the microorganisms by diffusion and is reduced intracellularly by low oxidation-reduction potential ferredoxin which then results in DNA damage.

INDICATIONS: Senizole Forte (Secnidazole 1 gm) is prescribed against:

• Intestinal amoebiasis
• Hepatic amoebiasis
• Giardiasis
• Urethritis and vaginitis due to Trichomonas vaginalis

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: The usual dosage regimens are as follow.

FOR ACUTE INTESTINAL AMOEBIASIS:

Adults: Two tablets of Senizole Forte (2 gm Secnidazole) as a single dose preferably during meal.

Children: Depending upon weight and age 30 mg/kg body weight as a single dose or in divided doses.

GIARDIASIS:

Adults: Two tablets of Senizole Forte (2 gm Secnidazole) as a single dose preferably during meal.

Children: Depending upon weight and age 30 mg/kg body weight as a single dose or in divided doses.

HEPATIC AMOEBIASIS:

ADULTS: 1 ½ tablets of Senizole Forte (1.5 gm Secnidazole) as a single dose daily for 5 days.

Children: Depending upon weight and age 30 mg/kg body weight as a single dose or in several divided doses daily for 5 days.

UROGENITAL TRICHOMONIASIS AND BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS:

Both husband and wife should be simultaneously treated with two tablets of Senizole Forte each, as a single dose preferably during meal.
