DRUG CATEGORY: Broad Spectrum Quinolone
MECHANISM OF ACTION: Levopal is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Levopal inhibits DNA-gyrase in susceptible organisms thereby inhibits relaxation of supercoiled DNA and promotes breakage of DNA strands. DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II), is an essential bacterial enzyme that maintains the superhelical structure of DNA and is required for DNA replication and transcription, DNA repair, recombination, and transposition. Levofloxacin is often bactericidal at concentrations equal to or slightly greater than inhibitory concentrations.
INDICATIONS: Community acquired pneumonia., Acute bacterial sinusitis, Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, Typhoid & paratyhphoid fever ,Uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections ,Chronic bacterial prostatitis, Complicated urinary tract infections, Uncomplicated urinary tract infections., Acute pyelonephritis., Inhalation anthrax (post-exposure).
Dosage and administration: The usual dose of Levopal Tablets is 500 mg, administered orally once or twice daily.
