GABATIC Capsules 100mg (Gabapentin 100 mg) DRUG CATEGORY: Anti-epileptic/ Anti-Convulsant MECHANISM OF ACTION: The mechanism of action is unknown. Gabapentin is structurally related to the neurotransmitter GABA, but it does not interact with GABA receptors, is not converted metabolically into GABA or a GABA agonist and is not an inhibitor of GABA uptake or degradation. Its therapeutic action on neuropathic pain is thought to involve voltage-gated N-type calcium ion channels. It is thought to bind to the α2δ subunit (1 and 2) of the voltage-dependent calcium channel in the central nervous system. INDICATIONS: Partial seizures with and without secondary generalization in patients over 12 years of age with epilepsy. Treatment of neuropathic pain and for the management of postherpetic neuralgia & Trigeminal neuralgias in adults. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:Usual effective dose: 900-1800 mg/day in 2-3 divided doses.
