PROVIN (Naproxen sodium) 550mg Tablets DRUG CATEGORY: NSAID MECHANISM OF ACTION: Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), with analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic properties. As with other NSAIDs, its mode of action is not fully understood; however, its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis may be involved in the anti-inflammatory effect. INDICATIONS: Acute musculoskeletal disorders (such as sprains and strains, direct trauma, lumbo-sacral pain, cervical spondylitis, fibrositis, bursitis and tendonitis); Dysmenorrhoea, uterine pain following I.U.D. insertion; Dental pain; Migraine headaches, Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and acute gout; Juvenile arthritis. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Adults (Acute musculoskeletal disorders, Dysmenorrhoea & Post-operative pain) 550mg at once, then 275mg three or four times daily Acute treatment of migraine 825mg (three 275mg tablets). An additional 275-550mg can be taken throughout the day, if necessary, The total dose of 1375mg per day should not be exceeded. Prophylaxis of common or classical migraine 275mg twice daily. Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis 550mg per day taken in two doses at 12-hour intervals Acute gout 825mg at once, then 275mg every eight hours.Children Safety and effectiveness in children below the age of 2 years have not been established.
